Keep up to date with all the latest news happening in school at the moment.
Following the government announcement yesterday, the school has now received comprehensive updated guidance from the Department for Education for our full reopening from 8th March 2021.
We are now updating our risk assessment and will communicate the details to parents by the end of the week.
Thank you for your support and patience.
Newtown C of E Primary School
We were really lucky to have had a set of ukuleles delivered to school this week.
Thanks to the help of Gosportarians and Kouga Guitars Ltd, we were able to get 15 brand new ukuleles for our children in school.
Already, year 5 have been learning new chords and are well on the way to learning a song to perform!
Out of a difficult situation, the kindness and generosity of our community has provided our children with an opportunity to learn and love playing a new instrument.
Newtown C of E Primary School is delighted to announce that we have raised £239.40 at our recent Christmas Jumper Day on the last day of term.
This will now be donated between Childhood Cancer UK and Breast Cancer UK.
Thank you for all your support.
Due to the Government announcement this evening at 8pm and the new national lockdown in force from tomorrow, Newtown C of E Primary School will be closed to ALL pupils on Tuesday 5th January as this will now be an INSET day.
This is the last thing we wanted to do but in light of this very recent change which we have heard at the same time as the nation, the staff need to plan efficiently to ensure your child/ren receive the best education during this period, as always.
The school will partially reopen on Wednesday 6th January 2021 to vulnerable children and children of CRITICAL workers only. More details will be communicated to you tomorrow.
We apologise for the extremely late notice but this is totally beyond our control as we have not received any further government or DFE guidance at this stage.
We are trying to communicate this message via ParentMail but the site is down nationally. This message will also be posted on social media. Thank you for your continued support.
Please note the government has identified that Newtown C of E Primary School will be open as planned to ALL pupils from Monday 4th January.
I know this is a worrying time for all but our comprehensive risk assessment will remain in place and will be updated when we receive the full updated guidance from the government and Department for Education.
However, please remember the following:
We will communicate any further information to you as soon as we can.
We look forward to welcoming all children back to school on Monday morning.
Following the Government announcement today, we are awaiting the definitive list of schools that will open as planned from Monday 4th January and those that will only open to key worker families and key children.
There is currently speculation in the press on which schools will not open as planned, however as yet we have not received this list from the Department for Education. As soon as we do, we will communicate this to you all.
Thank you for your continued support and patience.
Despite COVID and its most recent impact on the Gosport community, staff & Governors of Newtown have volunteered this morning to prepare all the hampers and gifts for our families that have been significantly impacted by the pandemic this year.
If you are collecting your hamper/gifts tomorrow (Tuesday 22nd) between 10am-11am or 11am-12noon, please wear a face covering and queue at the socially distanced markers in place.
Thank you to all the staff, governors who have made this possible and also to the kind donations from local businesses and the community.
Christmas Cards
If your child would like to distribute Christmas Cards to their friends this year, please can we ask that they only write cards to other children in their current year group. Christmas Cards can be brought into school from tomorrow, however these will be kept by the class teacher for distribution on the last day of term. Due to the 72hours quarantine period for items brought in from home, the deadline for the class teacher to be given Christmas Cards for the class/year will be Monday 14th December 2020.
Birthday sweets/gifts
We have reviewed our policy for children bringing in sweets to give out on their birthday. Your child may now bring in sweets to be distributed to the other pupils in their class. These must NOT contain nuts of any kind. We ask that these are individually wrapped and are given to the teacher at least 72 hours before distribution. The class teacher will then distribute these at the end of the school day to be consumed with parent supervision.
Collection Times
Please can we ask that parents keep to their staggered collection times. Some parents are beginning to arrive on site too early and this is creating a bottle neck of adults on site at one time. We must all work together to ensure we are all as safe as possible in this pandemic period. Please can we also ask parents of small children and toddlers to ensure your younger children are waiting with you, behind the yellow lines, at all times. Teachers have reported that small children are coming up to the classroom doors and banging on the doors which disturbs the class and their learning at the end of the day.
Thank you for your support
As part of our Newtown Community Christmas Appeal, we are creating Christmas Dinner Hampers and Christmas Goody Boxes for our families most in need at Christmas. We have 50 families that have been adversely affected by the COVID pandemic and we need your help!
Calling all local supermarkets, local businesses and organisations: We are looking for the following items/donations so that we can put together our Christmas Hampers. If you can help please get in touch with school as soon as possible.
Thank you!
Following our communications to you on 2nd November 2020, Parents' Evening Appointments are available to book until Monday morning. If you have not already done so please log onto your ParentMail account and go to the Parents Evening section to book your appointment time. If you cannot access Parent Mail please call the school office.
As you know, this year will be different, and all parents evening appointments will be conducted via the telephone. Your child's class teacher will telephone you at your allocated appointment time. Your appointment will be for a maximum of 10 minutes as we need to run to time in order for the teachers to ensure they complete every appointment booked.
The teachers will attempt to call twice and will have to move onto the next parent appointment if the call is not answered a second time. Teachers will also end the call after the scheduled 10 minutes has ended, even if you were late starting the call. Please make sure you are aware of your appointment time and are available to take the call.
Thank you
