  • Above and Beyond the Call of Duty

    Tue 26 Mar 2019

Congratulations to Mrs Blythe who has been awarded the ABCD award for March. Staff can nominate each other for the Above and Beyond the Call of Duty award which recognises outstanding professional contributions by individual staff members.

This award will be presented to staff who have gone above and beyond their day to day responsibilities, have excelled in their field, taken part in activities that have highly benefited the pupils of Newtown C of E Primary School or contributed to promoting a positive image of the profession. Winners will have sprinkled magic into the minds and lives of our school community on a continuing or substantial basis.

Mrs Blythe was nominated because of her tireless work to improve and introduce new ideas and incentives for Earlybirds and Teatimers. Mrs Blythe gives many hours of her own time without asking for any recognition. Mrs Blythe is so committed to the children and staff of Newtown throughout the day, working at Earlybirds, Lunchtime and Teatimers, in addition to leading the Forces Club. Mrs Blythe always remains calm and cheerful.

    Congratulations Mrs Blythe!

  • Share the Miracle!

    Wed 20 Mar 2019

As part of our 40 acts of kindness that we are taking in part in during Lent, we have registered Newtown C of E Primary School with the ‘Share the Miracle’ project. The idea behind this project is to ‘put a dent in loneliness’ and strengthen our community.

We would like to invite everyone in our school community to get involved by donating an Easter egg of Easter gift. As part of their homework, the children have been invited to make an Easter card or picture. We will attach a card to each gift and they will all be delivered to local care homes or organisations supporting the more vulnerable or lonely people within our community. If you would like to attach your child’s card directly to your donation, please feel free to do so.

We have set up a ‘Share the Miracle’ station in the school office where we will collect and display all of the donations and cards. On Friday 5th April, all the gifts and cards will be delivered within the community.

The children’s homework and any Easter egg or gift donations can be delivered to school via the class teachers or directly to the office anytime from now until Wednesday 3rd April.

Thank you in advance for your support. Please share this post to ensure as many people in our community are aware! We look forward to collecting the cards and donations and sharing the miracle!

In addition, children's author Ali Sparkes will be visiting us on Friday and speaking to years 3, 4 and 5 about her guide to 'Authordom'!

  • Red Nose Day - Friday 15th March

    Wed 13 Mar 2019

Newtown C of E Primary School will be participating in Red Nose Day on Friday 15th March.

We ask that children come to school dressed in their PE kit for a fun-run on the school field, in the morning. This event is organised in conjunction with St Vincent College. Full school uniform must be brought in with your child to change into after the run. Children can come to school with Red Noses only.

As this is not a non-uniform day children will be expected to wear full school uniform. No other Red Nose Day merchandise can be worn in school. However, if children wish to wear a red nose t-shirt for the fun-run, they can.

We kindly ask for a £1 donation towards this good cause.

PE kits must be taken home on Thursday after school, ready for Friday morning. Please ensure that your child has a water bottle in school.

Should we have inclement weather the activity may change but we will keep you informed during the day.

  • PTA Re-Launch

    Wed 13 Mar 2019

Please come along to the relaunch of our PTA and meet your class parent reps on Thursday 14th March, 5pm-6pm.

All attendees will receive free childcare in After School Club for the duration of the meeting, free buffet and refreshments, and entry into the free raffle to win bottles of bubbly!

There will be no pressure to make further commitments.

This meeting is to inform our school community about our plans. We look forward to seeing you there!

  • 40 Acts of Kindness Challenge

    Tue 05 Mar 2019

Mrs Howlett launched our 40 Acts of Kindness Challenge for Lent in the Ethos Collective Worship yesterday.

Lent is the 40 days leading up to Easter when we remember Jesus' time in the desert, the challenges he faced when he was there and the courage he displayed.

Instead of giving something up for Lent, we have challenged the children to take up the "40acts challenge" and carry out simple acts of giving and kindness throughout Lent this Year.

Here is the 40 Acts Challenge card for you to use! Good luck Newtown C of E Primary School!
