  • Bank Holiday Announced to mark HM The Queen’s Funeral

    Tue 13 Sep 2022

Following the proclamation of King Charles III at the Accession Council on Saturday, His Majesty has approved that a bank holiday will take place on Monday 19th September for the sad event of her late Majesty’s state funeral.

The government has announced that schools, including Newtown C of E Primary School, will be closed on this date.

This allows all individuals to pay their respects to Her Majesty and commemorate her reign, while marking the final day of the period of national mourning.

The Senior Leadership Team recognise that this may be a very difficult time for a great deal of people and that it is important for people to know that any feelings people are having of sadness and grief associated with this sad occasion are valid. If you would like some support regarding bereavement and/or dealing with loss please contact us or visit our website where we have signposted bereavement charities where you can access support.

As a school, we will also be sending a collective message of condolence to HM King Charles III and the royal family via https://www.royal.uk/send-message-condolence. Please feel free to also send your own message, should you wish. In addition, condolence books at Gosport Borough Council will be opened and available for members of the public to sign at the Town Hall from Monday to Friday 09:00 - 17:00.  Additional books of condolence are available at Gosport Discovery Centre, Holy Trinity Church and St Faith's Church, Lee on the Solent.

  • Remembering HM Queen Elizabeth II - Our special Collective Worship

    Fri 09 Sep 2022

Mrs Mitchell has led the children and staff in a special collective worship this morning remembering HM Queen Elizabeth II and the important part she has played in our world.

Using our Christian Ethos Values of Love, Courage and Friendship Mrs Mitchell explained that some people may be sad today and some may be happy because they have happy memories of the Queen and how she was such a lovely lady. Mrs Mitchell also asked the children to care for each other, especially today and to show love, courage and friendship towards each other.

Mrs Mitchell also explained the important role King Charles III now has, of bringing everyone together, whilst also feeling sad after losing his Mother. King Charles III will be showing resilience and focus in abundance; two of our learning behaviours, whilst also displaying the same Christian Ethos Values we follow.

The children and staff observed a one-minute silence in respect of, and to remember, HM Queen Elizabeth II, which was followed by a prayer.

Mrs Mitchell was then delighted to be able to share the Golden Acorn Awards of the week, given to those children who have shown, this week, those same Christian Ethos Values as her Majesty:

Faye and Cooper in Year 1

Alana and Evie Rose in Year 2

Matthew and Isabella in Year 3

Connor and Josie in Year 4

Holly and Macie in Year 5

Stanley and Lily in Year 6
