After School Club
Thu 10 Sep 2020We are working really hard to try and get After School Club up and running through this COVID-regulated period. There is a great deal of factors to take into account and we need to make sure that it is financially viable for the school.
If we were able to re-open After School Club in this COVID-19 period, it would run as follows:
- Start time 3pm and finish time 5:30pm (no early collection due to staffing)
- Food/tea would be a picnic/packed tea
- Price will remain at £10 due to increased staffing and increased expenditure with outsourced food
- Payments would need to be made WEEKLY in advance, no exceptions can be made.
- Limited places would be available on a first come, first served basis.
We are not in a position to commit to offering After School Club at this current moment in time, however we are looking to organise this again from October if it is financially viable, as we would need an increased number of staff to adhere to the Government and DfE COVID-19 restrictions and regulations.
If you would be interested in a place for your child on the basis above, please complete a form to express your interest and return/submit no later than Thursday 16th September 2020. Forms have been sent via ParentMail or please telephone the school office for a hard copy.

Applying for a secondary school place (Year 7):
Wed 09 Sep 2020If your child is currently in year 6 you will need to apply for a Year 7 place in a secondary school for September 2021.
Applications will open on 14th September 2020 and close on 31st October 2020.

Thank you and Update from Mrs Howlett 08.09.2020
Tue 08 Sep 2020I am writing to express my sincere gratitude to you all for your positive feedback when coming on to site at the start and end of the school day.
Please can I also say a special thank you to year 2 parents for listening to us and ensuring that you arrive at your designated arrival time and not before. This prevented a bottle neck this morning and it allowed everyone in key stage one to have a smooth arrival.
Please can I remind all parents that children are not allowed to use the play equipment at the start and end of the school day. We work hard throughout the day to keep the children separated in their bubbles and we need to ensure this continues until the children are home.
In addition, whilst it is lovely to see our year 6 leavers in their secondary uniforms, where possible and to reduce the numbers of people on site, please can we ask that they remain on the cycle path and do not come onto site at this time.
We are expected to have warm weather in the next few days and it is vital that a full water bottle is brought in EVERY DAY from home for the children to use.
Due to COVID-19 restrictions, unfortunately we are not able to hold our annual Meet the Teacher evenings this week, therefore the teaching teams have prepared virtual Meet the Teacher presentations for you to view at your leisure via our website https://www.newtownceprimary.co.uk/meet-the-teacher-2020/
May I also take this opportunity to inform you of some wonderful news. Miss Metcalf, Inclusion Leader and SENCo, is getting married on Saturday 12th September 2020. Therefore Miss Metcalf will be known, from next week, as Mrs. Holloway. We wish Mr and Mrs Holloway our warmest wishes for the future and our many congratulations!

Important message regarding TikTok
Tue 08 Sep 2020It has been brought to our attention that there is an extremely distressing video appearing when anyone opens the TikTok app. Tiktok and the Safeguarding authorities are asking all people to refrain from using the app for 72 hours while investigations are underway so that this video can be removed. Please ensure you have safeguarded your child's devices.

Summer Holiday Closure
Wed 22 Jul 2020Newtown C of E Primary School has now closed for the summer holiday period.
The school office will not reopen until Tuesday 1st September.

Mrs Howlett's End of Year Message

What a year! If you had told me in September 2020 what was going to happen this academic year, I probably would not have believed you! However, despite the challenges and triumphs, Newtown C of E Primary School has overcome any adversity and our wonderful pupils, parents, staff and community have come together stronger than ever before.
This year has been one to remember for many reasons, not least because our wonderful school achieved our GOOD grading from Ofsted, which followed our GOOD SIAMS inspection in the same calendar year. Newtown C of E Primary School is now seen as a beacon of the Gosport community and among the other local schools in the area.
I hope you have all received my detailed correspondence yesterday detailing out full reopening plans. As a collective staff team, we can honestly say that we are unanimous in our delight in being able to welcome all pupils back in September as we have missed everyone very much.
At this time of the year it is sad to say goodbye to the members of our school community who are leaving us. Mrs. Girt is leaving Newtown as she has gained an opportunity to work in another local school office. We also say goodbye to Learning Support Assistants, Miss Haynes, Mrs. Toastivine, Mrs. Scott and Mrs. Roantree-Roesch but we will continue to see Mrs. Roantree-Roesch during our lunchtime provision.
In addition, it is with pride and delight that we say goodbye to our year 6 pupils. It has certainly been an unusual year but I know I speak on behalf of the whole staff team when I say that we are so blessed to have played a small part in their future and how wonderful it has been to watch them grow and develop. We will now look forward to seeing each year 6 pupil flourish as they take the next step in their lives.
It is also my absolute pleasure to introduce our new leadership team to you for September 2020. Alongside myself as Headteacher, the Senior Leadership Team will consist of Mrs. W Mitchell, Deputy Headteacher; Mrs. S Stroud, School Business Manager & Operations; Miss K Wandless, KS2 Learning Leader & Maths Leader; Mrs. C Oakes, KS1 Learning Leader & English Leader; Mrs. C Watson, EYFS Learning Leader; Miss V Metcalf, Inclusion Leader & SENCo and Mr. J Bagley, Senior Teacher (Lunchtime & Afternoon Curriculum). The Senior Leadership Team will always be available to discuss any questions or queries you have regarding your child’s education at Newtown C of E Primary School.
I have enclosed the key dates and menus for the new academic term, as well as the Hampshire academic calendar. During the summer holidays, please keep up to date with everything at Newtown C of E Primary School via our Social Media accounts and our the website. With COVID-19 related guidance changing daily, we will communicate any updates with you via these channels and of course via ParentMail. I am aware that there are 7 weeks until pupils return to school, significant changes either in the R rate and/or guidance may mean that plans need to change or be tweaked prior to Monday 7th September.
On our return in September, please can I remind you to read the detailed correspondence sent yesterday and to adhere to social distancing on site. I would ask you to ensure you keep to the new drop off and collection times, dependent on your child’s year group, and leave the site immediately once your child is safely in school. The school reception will remain closed unless visitors have a pre-arranged appointment. Please call the school office or email adminoffice@newtown.hants.sch.uk to leave any messages or to arrange a telephone call from a member of staff.
I would like to finish my end of term message to you all by trying to put into words how utterly grateful and thankful I am for the tireless dedication of the staff here at Newtown C of E Primary School. This year has been a complex one yet it has been filled with many highs, which can be attributed in no small part to the inspirational staff that work with your children each and every day. In this unprecedented time, their passion and commitment to providing the best education to your children has remained paramount.
Thank you for your patience, understanding and unwavering support this year, it has been a complex planning time for us. Striving to ensure our Newtown community remains safe, healthy and happy remains our priority as it has been throughout the past 17 weeks.

Home Start Hampshire - Back to School
