• Woodland Forest in Year 1

  As part of our recent learning environment improvements, the year one corridor is now a wonderful woodland forest. This is a real wow factor for the children, which will inspire them to learn and links the learning environment with our exciting and thoroughly engaging curriculum.

   

  We are working hard to ensure our learning environments capture the children’s interests and open up a world of possibilities for them. Our curriculum, the learning environment and the opportunities for learning motivate our children because they have a real purpose and focus.

  

• Olly the Phonics Octopus

  The children in year 1 have been learning about the 'ai' sound in phonics.

   

  They joined forces with Olly the Phonics Octopus to create as many words with the ai sound as they could think of.

• Harvest Festival

  What a wonderful Harvest Festival we celebrated this week!

   

  The Church Service was beautiful, with year 6 pupils eloquently reading bible passages and narrating the service themed around a verse from Galatians ‘What a person plants, they will harvest.’ 

   

  Throughout the service the pupils challenged us to think about what we are planting in our lives and subsequently what we will be harvesting. 

   

   

  

• Stay & Play RETURNS to Newtown!

  Stay and Play will be starting back on Wednesday 9th October!

   

  These are free sessions for parents and pre-schoolers, every Wednesday from 9th October between 9:15am and 10:30am.

• Safeguarding & Prevent Information for Parents

  We take our duty to ensure arrangements are in place for safeguarding and promoting the well being of children very seriously and we adhere to the Department For Education, ‘Keeping Children Safe in Education’ guidance.

   

  Please visit our leaflet section of the website, which will will give you information on Safeguarding Children and the Prevent Strategy introduced by the government, designed to stop extremism. Please take the time to read these.

• Year 3 Stonehenge Trip

  What a fantastic day of learning Year 3 had yesterday at Stonehenge.

   

  Their current project "Into the Tardis" allows the children to go back in time to the Stone Age and explore the era, so this trip to Stonehenge linked directly to the curriculum and gave the children exciting opportunities to discover this period, understand what the landscape was like and explore what it was like to live in this period of time.

• Parent Governor Vacancies

  We currently have two vacancies for parent governors, which we need to fill as soon as possible.

   

  Newtown C of E Primary School has a partnership with parents that undoubtedly brings great benefits to the children. One of the most significant ways you can help is to volunteer to be a parent governor.

   

  The governing body's main tasks are:

  • to ensure that the school has a clear vision, ethos and strategic direction;
  • to hold the Headteacher to account for the educational performance of the school and its pupils;
  • to oversee the financial performance of the school and making sure its money is well spent.

   

  The governing body is aware of the views of parents and the local community. We feel sure that there are parents prepared to take on this important role and give their time and commitment to helping us to continue to improve the school's performance.

   

  Training and support will be available to help you develop into the role. This will include in-house mentoring and support as well as access to external governor training.

   

  If you feel you can help in this capacity please contact the office for an application form which will need to be completed and returned to the school by 12.00 noon on Friday 27^th September 2019.

   

  The guidelines giving full details about how vacancies are filled can be found on the school’s website. You should also look at the information for prospective governors on the Hampshire County Council website. You will find videos, e-learning and written information on the site and all of these will provide you with further details about the role.

   

  Please note that for the protection of children all governor appointments are subject to an identity check, an enhanced DBS check and a 128 barring direction check for prohibition from management in schools.

   

  If there are more applications than vacancies, we will hold an election.

• Teddy Bears Picnic for new Year R families

  Calling all new Year R families for September 2019!

  
  You are invited to our Teddy Bears Picnic on Tuesday 3rd September between 12 noon - 1:30pm, which will take place in the school grounds. We look forward to seeing you all there!

  

• Sports Day Update - Friday 28th June

  It is due to be very hot tomorrow. Please can you all ensure your child comes to school in their PE kit and each child MUST have a sun hat, water-bottle and sun cream applied before arrival to school. We would also be grateful if children can bring sun-cream with them which is labelled, so that this can be reapplied throughout the day.

   

  The event has been risk assessed to go ahead based on the current weather conditions and forecast.

   

  Where possible the picnic will take place under shady areas.

   

  We look forward to having a fantastic sports day tomorrow.
