Christmas Hampers 2023

Following two months of appeals and donations by the school community, Newtown C of E Primary was able to give 70 food and toy hampers to families today, who are in need this Christmas, given the continued cost of living crisis.

Thank you to Amazon, Tesco, EIS and our entire school community for their donations.

Staff are pictured with the finished hampers, awaiting the arrival of very grateful families.

Governor Trophy - Autumn 2023 - EYFS/KS1

Congratulations to Bella in Year 1 who has won the EYFS/KS1 Governor Trophy for the Autumn term.

Bella is a kind, respectful and caring child who always shows the school ethos values of Love, Courage and Friendship. She is a fantastic friend who always treats others with respect and kindness.

Bella always strives to make her learning the best that it can be and helps others to do this too. Bella completes all tasks with a quiet enthusiasm and loves challenging herself. She has made great progress this term, especially in her writing. Bella has a particular love of reading and thoroughly enjoys phonics lessons. Bella shone in our nativity play. It was so lovely to see her confidence blossom!

She is a pleasure to teach, and hope she continues her love of learning.

Well done Bella!

Governor Trophy - Autumn 2023 - KS2

Congratulations to Matthew in Year 4, for winning the KS2 Autumn Governor Trophy Award. Matthew has developed into a considerate, thoughtful and hard-working boy who is striving to become the best verison of himself.

He has worked so hard on developing his learning behaviours, particularly resilience, as he is now able to keep going even when he finds things difficult. This, in turn, has demonstrated Matthew's progress in self-regulation; he can now use and apply taught problem-solving skills to approach a problem in a new way and regulate his emotions.

Matthew has shown a real love of learning since the start of Year 4. He demonstrates a real pride in his work, especially in his drawings, and he is enthusiastic about learning new things. He particularly enjoyed our Anglo-Saxon learning in History, especially our Anglo-Saxon experience day at the beginning of the term.

Matthew is a hands-on learner. He loves learning through experience and he is able to make links with what he is learning to the wider context of the world and his own experiences. He has shown great courage and independence to develop his thinking when approaching learning, and he is very reflective about things that are important to him.

Matthew has worked hard to form close bonds and positive relationships with children who are good role models for him. This has enabled Matthew to enjoy his breaktimes and lunchtimes and to develop the school's Christian Ethos Value of Friendship on a daily basis.

Matthew's determination to get it right has been praised by a number of school staff this year, and the difference in Matthew's attitude to learning has been incredible. We are so proud of you, Matthew. Keep it up.

After hearing he won the award Matthew said "I have been working so hard and I am making the right choices". Well done Matthew.

Remembrance Day

Our school community has come together to remember those who have died, suffered or who have been involved during wars or conflict around the world. A two-minute silence was impecibly observed followed by our Forces Club laying a wreath of remembrance in our memorial garden.

RBL Remembrance Day

The school will be commemorating our remembrance day this year on Friday 10th November 2023. The school will undertake a period of a minute's silence and reflection at 11am on this day. Following this, the Forces Club, with Mrs Howlett, will lay a wreath in our memorial garden at the front of the school.

We are inviting all children to wear their affiliated uniform on this day (Friday 10th November) if your child takes part in cadets, beavers, brownies, rainbows etc.

From tomorrow (Tuesday) until the end of the week, our School Council will be selling poppies and other RBL merchandise at break times, for the children to purchase/donate. Suggested donations include:

Traditional Paper Poppies - 50p
Reflectors - 50p
Material zip pulls - 50p
Wristbands - £1

If your child would like to purchase any merchandise, please bring the correct money into school in a named envelope and give to your child's class teacher for safe keeping until break-time.

The Royal British Legion have stated that this year, if your child would like a paper poppy, we are able to give them one, regardless if they have made a donation or not. However, all donations are gratefully received.

Our children have also made an external display of poppies on our school perimeter fence as part of the Fort Brockhurst remembrance event this year.

Y4 Portals to the Past Anglo Saxon Workshop

Year 4 had an exciting Anglo-Saxon workshop, led by Portals to the Past, on their first day back. The children loved exploring the artefacts, learning about the Anglo-Saxon way of life, and re-enacting battles between the Anglo-Saxons and the Vikings!

We also invited their families to view all the children's learning at a Mayan exhibition, where the children explained all about Mayan temples and the artefacts they created.
