It's #HelloYellow day!: Thursday 10 October 2024
Today, thousands of schools, companies and communities across the UK are coming together in yellow on World Mental Health Day.
Newtown C of E Primary School are raising awareness and showing children and young people they’re not alone with their mental health. Because we stand brighter, together.
We are acutely aware of the difficult time some of our families are experiencing currently. We would like to organise our Newtown Community Christmas Hamper Appeal again this year and would like to invite all families to express an interest if they feel they may need some extra help over the Christmas period.
We would like (if possible) to provide our families in most need, with a Christmas hamper consisting of goodies and ingredients for a Christmas dinner, as well as christmas presents, courtesy of Mission Christmas Appeal.
If you feel you would like a Christmas Hamper or additional help at Christmas with gifts for the children, please complete this survey/form by Friday 20th September 2024:
https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/JYFCGS9
We are sorry for the short notice of this request, however we have been informed by the Mission Christmas team that it is first come first served this year for all organisations to secure Christmas presents and therefore will do not want to miss out on this opportunity for our families.
Please respond by completing this survey via the link above, if you would like to express an interest in receiving a hamper and gifts by THIS FRIDAY: Friday 20th September 2024.
Congratulations to Mrs Duery who has won the national Teaching Assistant award from Teaching Personnel.
Mrs Duery has given 18 years of dedication to Newtown C of E Primary School and we are so thrilled and proud of Mrs Duery.
The award comes as no surprise to all of us who have had the pleasure of working with Mrs Duery for a number of years. She truly is amazing and epitomises our school Christian Ethos Values of Love, Courage and Friendship each and everyday, to everyone that comes into contact with her.
Mrs Duery always goes above and beyond to ensure no child is left behind and understands what needs to be taught and delivered to ensure the children achieve their best possible outcomes.
Well done Mrs Duery!
We’ve got some exciting news to share with you.
Parentkind – a charity that supports school PTAs - have teamed up with Asda, who is making millions of pounds available to donate to primary schools across the UK through their ‘Cashpot for Schools’ initiative. To support our school, all you have to do is opt-in through the Asda Rewards app, shop and scan in store or shop online at Asda.com.
Between 2nd September and 30th November 2024 – every time you shop with Asda using your Asda Rewards app, Asda will donate 0.5% of the value of your shop to your chosen Primary school. Also, every time somebody opts-in to support our Primary school, Asda will give an additional £1 to the school Cashpot. Plus, it doesn’t stop there – Asda are also giving £50 to every school to get them started.
The supermarket has joined forces with Joe Wicks to support the initiative – look out for the TV advert, radio ads and social media coverage!
It’s as easy as 1,2,3:
1. Download the Asda Rewards app, register and opt-in to Cashpot for Schools (make sure you have the latest version of the app installed)
2. Choose our Primary School – either searching by name or postcode: Newtown Church of England Primary School or PO12 1JD
3. Shop instore across Asda and George, or online at Asda.com and start filling your Cashpot as you shop
Asda does the rest, all money raised will be donated to schools to spend on the things they need the most.
Remember, anyone can sign up – so start spreading the news and raising funds for our school.
This initiative is on top of the existing Asda Rewards benefits you get as a shopper – so you won’t lose out on any of your own earnings or Cashpot, so everyone is a winner!

As adults in the UK vote in a general election to choose a government this week, Newtown C of E Primary School is learning how democracy works, and why it matters, by taking part in an election of their own.
Today in collective worship, Mrs Howlett has spoken with the children about British values and linking this to the general election. On Thursday, the children will be voting to decide which of the following will happen on Friday:
1. 20 minutes extra play or
2. Snack of your choice at breaktime (no nuts) or
3. Non-uniform day
Once the votes have been counted, the winning treat will be communicated to parents at the end of the day on Thursday, ready for Friday.
Congratulations to the Year 4 and Year 5 Girls football team who took part in the Gosport 7-a-side Girls Football Tournament at Grange Junior School yesterday.
The team were fantastic, playing against other school teams who comprised of mainly year 6 children. Everyone at Newtown C of E Primary School is so proud of you all for showing courage and resilience; congratulations for your well deserved win too!
