Our Link with Christ Church
Newtown CE Primary School is proud to be a Church of England school with strong and valued links to Christ Church, Gosport, part of Haven Church. Our partnership enriches the spiritual life of our school and helps us live out our Christian vision and values every day.
Christ Church is much more than the place where we hold our major celebrations; it is an active part of our school community. Throughout the year, our children visit the church for services including Harvest, Christmas, Easter and our Year 6 Leavers' Service, giving them opportunities to worship, reflect and celebrate together in a beautiful and welcoming Christian setting.
Members of the Christ Church team regularly visit school to lead Collective Worship, support our children in exploring the Christian faith and help them understand how Christian values can be lived out in everyday life. Through stories, prayer, reflection and discussion, our pupils are encouraged to develop spiritually, ask thoughtful questions and grow in their understanding of God's love for all.
Christ Church is a welcoming church with a simple message: "Come as you are." Whether someone has attended church all their life or has never stepped through the doors before, everyone is welcomed with warmth, kindness and acceptance. This inclusive approach reflects the values we seek to nurture within our own school community, where every child is known, valued and encouraged to flourish.
As part of Haven Church, Christ Church shares the vision of being "For All. For Jesus. For Gosport." The church is passionate about serving the local community, helping people discover faith, building meaningful relationships and making a positive difference across Gosport. This commitment to serving others closely mirrors our own school vision of developing compassionate, courageous and respectful young people who make a positive contribution to their community.
Families from Newtown are warmly invited to become involved in church life should they wish to. Christ Church offers a variety of Sunday services to suit different styles of worship, including a traditional Holy Communion service, a lively family service with activities for children and young people, and a contemporary evening service. There are also children's groups, youth activities, community events and opportunities to explore faith throughout the week.
Our close partnership means that learning extends beyond the classroom. Whether through worship, celebrations, community projects or shared events, our children experience first-hand what it means to belong to a caring Christian community. We are incredibly grateful for the friendship, encouragement and support that Christ Church provides to our pupils, families and staff.
