Difference

At Newtown CE Primary School we are proud to take part in the Difference programme, which helps children learn how to understand one another and live well together in today’s diverse world. Through engaging lessons, stories, discussion and reflection, pupils explore how people may see things differently and why listening to others is so important.

The Difference programme encourages children to develop three important habits: Be Curious, Be Present and Reimagine. These habits support pupils in asking thoughtful questions, listening carefully to others’ experiences and considering how they can help make their community a kinder and fairer place. Children are encouraged to reflect on their own views, appreciate different perspectives and learn how to talk about important issues with respect and confidence.

In lessons, pupils explore real-life stories and situations that help them think about identity, belonging and fairness. They learn practical skills such as active listening, empathy and respectful disagreement. These skills support our wider school values and help pupils to build positive relationships with their classmates and the wider community.

At Newtown CE Primary School we believe it is important that children grow up with the confidence and compassion to engage with the world around them. Through the Difference programme, we aim to nurture pupils who are thoughtful, open-minded and able to celebrate the diversity that makes our communities strong.
