At Newtown Church of England Primary School, collective worship is at the heart of our school community and plays an important role in nurturing the spiritual development of our children. As a Church of England school, we provide a daily act of collective worship that reflects our Christian vision and values of Love, Courage and Friendship.

Collective worship takes place every day, either as a whole school gathering or within individual classes. These opportunities bring our school community together to reflect, celebrate, pray and explore Christian teachings. Through stories from the Bible, discussion, music, prayer and reflection, children are encouraged to think deeply about themselves, their relationships with others and the wider world.

Our worship themes are carefully planned throughout the year and are linked to our Christian values, the Church calendar and important local, national and global events. Children are encouraged to participate actively in worship through leading prayers, sharing reflections and celebrating achievements.

We are fortunate to have strong links with Christ Church, Stoke Road, and regularly welcome members of the church community into school to lead worship. We also attend services at Christ Church throughout the year, strengthening the partnership between school, church and families.

Prayer Spaces

As part of our commitment to supporting the spiritual wellbeing of every child, each classroom has a dedicated prayer and reflection space. These areas provide a calm and welcoming environment where children can spend time quietly reflecting, praying or simply pausing during the school day.

Children are invited to use these spaces whenever they feel the need for a moment of stillness, gratitude or reflection. Each prayer space includes prayer pebbles which children can hold while saying a prayer or thinking about something important to them. Once they have finished, they can place the pebble into a basket as a symbol of their prayer being shared with God.

These prayer spaces encourage children to develop their own spiritual journey and provide opportunities for reflection that are inclusive and accessible to all.

Our Collective Worship Prayer

At the start of our collective worship, we join together in saying our school prayer:

Dear Lord Jesus,

We light these candles to remind us that you’re the light of the world.

As we come together now, to pray and to praise, may your light remove all darkness from our hearts and minds.
