Year 2

Year 2

Welcome to Year 2, a year filled with growing independence and opportunities to show love, courage, and friendship in everything we do. Children deepen their learning across the curriculum while developing resilience and pride in their achievements. We encourage them to support one another, celebrate each other’s successes, and face new challenges with confidence. Our classrooms are calm and welcoming where every child feels valued and inspired to do their best.

Useful Information

Reading books

Please make sure reading books and records are in school EVERY day as children read to an adult throughout the week and this will be recorded in their reading diaries. Children have the opportunity to change their reading books on a Friday.

PE

Most weeks, PE will take place on a Wednesday and Friday. However, timetables may be changed or re-arranged so please ensure your child’s PE kit is in school each day just incase we find time for an extra session.

 PE Kit should include:

  • Black shorts or tracksuit bottoms
  • Plain white t-shirt or house colour t-shirt
  • Plimsolls/trainers

Earrings need to be removed for PE (at home please), but if this is not possible please cover them with tape until they can be removed. Long hair also needs to be tied up.

Home learning

Each week, your child will be sent home Phonics/Spelling home learning. This helps consolidate the learning they have completed throughout the week. Alongside this, reading at least five times a week will further support your child’s progress. Each half term, the children will be sent home a selection of home learning linked to their project in school. We would like you to encourage your child in completing the Must Do Activities. You may also choose to encourage your child in challenging themselves and completing other activities suggested on the home learning sheet.
