Year 1
Year 1
Welcome to Year 1, where children continue to flourish in a setting shaped by love, courage, and friendship. As they move into more structured learning, we support them with patience and positivity, helping them feel secure and excited about new challenges. Children are encouraged to be brave learners—asking questions, having a go, and learning from mistakes—while building strong friendships that make school a joyful place to be.

Useful Information
Reading books
Please make sure reading books and records are in school EVERY day as children read to an adult throughout the week and this will be recorded in their reading diaries. Children have the opportunity to change their reading books on a Friday
PE
Most weeks, PE will take place on a Tuesday and Thursday. However, timetables may be changed or re-arranged so please ensure your child’s PE kit is in school each day just incase we find time for an extra session.
PE Kit should include:
- Black shorts or tracksuit bottoms
- Plain white t-shirt or house colour t-shirt
- Plimsolls/trainers
Earrings need to be removed for PE (at home please), but if this is not possible please cover them with tape until they can be removed. Long hair also needs to be tied up.
Home learning
Each week your child will be sent home phonics home learning. This helps consolidate the learning they have completed throughout the week. Alongside this, reading at least five times a week will further support your child’s progress. Each half term, the children will be sent home a selection of home learning linked to their project in school. We would like you to encourage your child in completing the Must Do Activities. You may also choose to encourage your child in challenging themselves and completing other activities suggested on the home learning sheet.
