What is the Pupil Premium?
Pupil Premium
At Newtown C of E Primary School, we are committed to high expectations for all pupils. We believe that every child can succeed, regardless of background, and we work to remove barriers to learning so all pupils can reach their full potential.
The Pupil Premium, introduced by the Department for Education (DfE), provides additional funding to support disadvantaged pupils, including those eligible for free school meals (FSM), Looked After Children (LAC), and children from service families. This funding is used carefully to ensure best value and to provide targeted, personalised support.

Our Approach
We focus on three key areas:
High-Quality Teaching
Strong classroom teaching, supported by staff training in metacognition, self-regulation, and effective feedback.
Targeted Support
Interventions such as small group tuition, pre- and post-teaching, and speech and language support to close learning gaps.
Wider Support
Pastoral care, attendance support, and help with enrichment opportunities, including trips, residentials, and essential items like uniform and PE kits.
Evidence and Impact
Our strategy is guided by research from the Education Endowment Foundation (EEF) to ensure effective use of funding. We closely track pupil progress through regular assessment and review.
Our goal is simple: every child is ready to learn, makes strong progress, and leaves us as a confident, capable learner.
