World Book Day

World Book Day Thursday 7th March 2019

As part of our drive to maintain, promote and engage pupil interest in reading, we will be taking part in WORLD BOOK DAY on Thursday 7th March 2019.

On this special day, your child can come to school dressed as a favourite character from any book. If they could also bring along an extract from the book, or the book itself, they will be able to share this in their classes. It would be good to discuss with your child different characters from their favourite books. Again, the dressing up possibilities are endless: Postman Pat, Oliver Twist, Fantastic Mr Fox, James and the Giant Peach, Matilda, Goldilocks, Jack and the Beanstalk , Cinderella, Gruffalo, Elmer the Elephant, Paddington Bear, Harry Potter etc.

During the morning of the 7th March, classes will be taking part in special book related activities investigating an amazing classic or heritage book and will complete tasks around that text. During a special school Collective Worship in the afternoon, each class will have an opportunity to talk about their book and tasks and share their brilliant costumes. There will be a prize of a Newtown book token given to the most creatively dressed in each year group, which can be exchanged for a book in our school bookshop - open Fridays after school. We have also created a special lunch menu for the day, which is attached.

World book day £1 vouchers will be given to each child on the day and can be exchanged for any of the twelve exclusive, new and completely free World Book Day books at participating high-street bookshops.

Reading different books every evening, in preparation would be great! So get thinking and reading! We look forward to seeing your child dressed up for the special day.
